Global Education Dialogue- Universities and Cities conference will gather some of the best speakers from UK and Romania who will present their experience in finding collaborative solutions for helping universities and colleges to work in a more effective way with the local governments and businesses in order to contribute  to the success of their cities.

The speakers will share their knowledge on the community partnerships in education through their presentations, panel discussions and case studies.

Șerban Țigănaș

President of The Order of Architects from Romania

Șerban Țigănaș is an architect, educator and activist for the profession. He realized awarded buildings with Dico și Țigănaș, architecture and engineering. He teaches for more that 20 years in the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, having a PhD about Temporary Architecture. He is president of The Order of Architects from Romania, and Council member of the International Union of Architects.

 

Kevin Richardson

Local Growth Consultant  

Higher Education Funding Council for England

As Local Growth Consultant within the Higher Education Funding Council for England, Kevin Richardson acts as the key adviser on policy and strategy relating to local growth in general. He supports universities as anchor institutions to make their optimal contribution to local growth. He is responsible for the liaison with relevant departments of central government and national agencies. 

Paula Sanderson

Registrar

SOAS, University of London

Paula Sanderson was appointed as Registrar at SOAS University of London in November 2016. She is responsible for leading SOAS’s professional services with the strategic development, delivery, coordination and implementation of all aspects of the School’s professional and support services at a time of critical change in the UK Higher Education sector.

 

James Ransom

Policy Researcher 

Universities UK

James is a Policy Researcher at Universities UK, having previously worked for UNESCO and for the Association of Commonwealth Universities. His role at Universities UK has a particular focus on the role of universities in local growth, devolution and localism. 

 

Caroline Chipperfield

Senior Adviser, British Council

Senior Caroline is a Senior Adviser in higher education policy and strategy with the British Council, based in London, UK. She leads the British Council's flagship Global Education Dialogue series and oversees inward and outward delegations, ministerial visits and policy forums. 

Professor Julian Beer

Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Birmingham City University

Julian leads on the University’s Research, Enterprise and Business Engagement strategy, forging links between business and higher education. As leader of its strategy on business and employer engagement, Julian strengthens Birmingham City University’s connection with the City and region. He leads on research, innovation and knowledge exchange development, together with expanding commercial activities.

Alex de Ruyter is a Professor and Director of the Centre for Brexit Studies at Birmingham City University. He has published in leading international journals such as the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Urban Studies and the European Journal of Industrial Relations, and presented at numerous international conferences.
