What we do

The British Council has been working in Europe since 1937, and in Romania since 1938. Our arts programme aims to strengthen relationships following the UK’s exit from the EU and enable vital long-term partnerships between arts organisations and professionals from all four parts of the UK and Romania.

We work across all forms of art, from music, film and literature to performing arts, visual arts and design. Flowing Streams

Flowing Streams is a multi-residency project in rural areas of Romania exploring local approaches to the cultural ecology of water. Apply by 21 April 2024.

Arts and Disability

Our Arts and Disability work provides opportunities to deaf and disabled artists and offers producers, curators and policy-makers a window into the work developed by disabled artists.

Architecture, Design and Fashion

We aim to showcase the most exciting and very best work of UK creatives and connect designers and creative entrepreneurs from Romania and the UK.

Film

We have a tradition of film programmes featuring the newest and best British productions and develop long-term partnerships with local institutions.

Theatre and Dance

We develop collaborations that link artists and institutions to share the best of UK's performing arts, from live art and physical theatre to classic and text-based drama.

Literature

Our literature projects promote British literature in Romania and encourage the Romanian public to read and become familiar with contemporary British works.

Music
