Welcome to the British Council Romania!

We are here to connect people in Britain and Romania through cultural and educational exchanges. Our aim is to make a positive contribution to both our countries. We do this in a number of ways: supporting language learners and teachers; facilitating exchange in the Arts; and building co-operation in education and science.

Through our extensive network of partners we are able to work throughout Romania. We also have three offices, in Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi. And we provide a rich portfolio of on-line learning resources which can be accessed wherever you are.

The British Council was established in 1934 as the United Kingdom’s official organisation for cultural relations. We have been active in Romania since 1938. Over the years we have built partnerships between the most important and influential Romanian and British institutions in the fields of English, education, civil society and the arts. Many thousands have benefited from learning opportunities and intercultural experiences during that time. We are continuing to create new partnerships and new learning opportunities. We believe that this work plays a vital role in building a friendly knowledge and understanding between people in our two countries.

We also see our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion as one of the principal reasons for our continued success, and we are proud to share this experience and expertise with partners and customers throughout Romania.

I hope that we can also create an opportunity for you. Use this site to find out more about our work and how we can help you make your own personal UK/Romania connection.
