The Country Trainers are key to the English for the Community Project developed by the British Council and the Romanian-American Foundation. Each trainer is responsible for one location, where they train and support the Teacher Activity Groups.

County Trainer Alexandra Stevenson

Alexandra Stevenson

County Trainer (Harghita)

Alexandra has worked as an English teacher for more than ten years in Kuwait, the Czech Republic and Romania and as a Young Learners Co-ordinator for the British Council Bucharest for two years. She holds a DELTA qualification and has specialised in Very Young Learners education. Alex is fascinated by the way children acquire languages and their rich imagination but also by what motivates them to learn. She also loves travelling and acting.

Andrea started her journey into the world of education in Cluj-Napoca 20 years ago and has since been learning and seeking to improve. She now lives in Târgu-Mureș and loves teaching English and German to university students, as well as supporting newly-qualified and more experienced teachers.

County Trainer Catalina Stoica

Cătălina Stoica

County Trainer (Maramureș)

Cătălina teaches English at Grigore Moisil High School in Brașov where she is involved in teaching, tutoring, drama activities and organising theatre festivals and drama activities at local and national level. She is editor-in-chief of the school English magazine and project coordinator.

Cristiana has been a teacher trainer for British Council Cluj since 2007 and an E-moderator for British Council online courses since 2011. She taught English at a bilingual high school in Cluj-Napoca until 2011. She also mentors E-mentees and works as material writer for online courses and synchronous sessions.

Doina has been involved in education for more than 40 years and has been working on British Council projects since 1998. She lives in Brasov, the medieval town she was born in. Her interests include teaching, supporting teachers and trainers, mentoring and moderating online teacher training courses.

County Trainer Maria Elena Liana Gherdan

Maria Elena (Liana) Gherdan

County Trainer (Bihor)

Liana has been working in teacher education for more than two decades at the University of Oradea. Her role involves providing training to pre- and in-service teachers of English. She is also a Cambridge oral examiner and works with British Council Romania as an exams presenter (Cambridge, IELTS), having extensive experience of teaching English to different age groups and assisting teachers in various educational contexts in preparing students for language tests.

County Trainer Nadina Nicolici

County Trainer (Hunedoara)

Nadina is a teacher of English as a foreign language and the international projects and programs coordinator at Lorin Salagean Technical College in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin. She completed her BA in French and English, and she holds the CELTA qualification. In 2009, she received the title ‘Teacher of the Year’ in Romania at The Education Awards Gala.

Oana has been a teacher for over 20 years and a teacher trainer for almost ten. She works at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași and has had a long and enjoyable collaboration with the British Council. Apart from teaching, she believes music and dancing are very important in life.

Teo has been teaching English in Cluj-Napoca for about 18 years and has been working as a teacher trainer for British Council for the last 13 years. She started working as an online moderator seven years ago and she really enjoys working with teachers around the world both face-to-face and online. She loves travelling and playing games.
