What is the academic calendar for 2023 - 2024?
The English language courses from the academic year 2023 - 2024 will take place between 18 September 2023 – 15 June 2024. The academic year will run as a single wave, rather than in semesters as before. We will update this website with more information. The following holidays are included in this academic year*:
- 30 octombrie – 3 noiembrie (Parent’s Week 1)
- 30 noiembrie - 1 Decembrie (Bank holiday)
- 22 decembrie - 6 ianuarie (Winter holiday)
- 19 - 24 februarie (School Holiday)
- 22 – 27 aprilie (Parent’s Week 2)
- 29 aprilie – 7 mai (Orthoox Easter holiday)
*We reserve the right to change these periods depending on any subsequent changes in the state education system and according to the academic needs of our center.
What class timetable options are available?
The timetable options for your child's level are available through the registration portal, including real-time information on available seats for your chosen class. You have received the login details for the registration portal via e-mail.
In the meantime, you can access here the general timetable for each level.
How are the English language classes organised?
In the academic year 2023 - 2024 we will offer both face-to-face courses at the British Council premises in Bucharest, as well as online courses. Therefore, you will be able to choose the type of class you prefer for your child when you register them.
Please note that for the Learning Time with Timmy 1 level we only offer face-to-face classes.
What levels are the English language courses offered at?
We aim to provide students with a well-structured English language learning program, so that each of them reaches their full potential in a motivating, productive and safe environment.
How much is the registration fee?
The registration fee depends on the recommended level for your child. The registration fee can be paid in instalments, according to the details on the registration page.
What discounts are available?
Family Discount
We offer a 100 lei discount for the second child (brother/sister) enrolled in a course in the same academic year. The discount will be applied when making the final payment installment.
Loyalty Discount
- 300 lei discount for students re-enrolling in Learning Time with Timmy and Primary Infants 1&2.
- 400 lei discount for students re-enrolling in Primary Infants 3, Primary Plus, Secondary Plus, and Upper Secondary Plus.
Full Payment Discount
- 150 lei for students enrolling in Learning Time with Timmy and Primary Infants 1&2
- 200 lei for students enrolling in Primary Infants 3, Primary Plus, Secondary Plus, and Upper Secondary Plus
How can I register my child?
You can book a place for your child for the new academic year through our registration portal. You can also pay the fee directly in the portal, by card.
Alternatively, you can request a reservation at contact@britishcouncil.ro, or call 021 307 96 00 (09.00-17.00, Monday-Friday), mentioning your child's name, their student number and the preferred timetable option, among those available. If you choose this option, you will be able to pay later via bank transfer or at our main centre - we will include all payment details in your reservation confirmation.
Can I receive an invoice for the course fee?
Of course, we issue invoices on request. In order to issue you an invoice, please write to us at contact@britishcouncil.ro , mentioning your child's name and student number, as well as the billing details.
Is it possible to transfer my child to another timetable option once I have registered them?
Of course, we can transfer students to other timetable options, depending on the availability of places at the time of request. If you want a transfer, please write to us at contact@britishcouncil.ro, or call us at 021 307 96 00 (09.00-17.00, Monday-Friday), mentioning your child's name, their student number and the new time you want to transfer them to. The transfer will be confirmed subject to availability of places.
What is the maximum number of places in a group?
The number of places depends on the level your child is enrolled in, as well as the format of teaching - face to face or online.
Therefore, for the face to face courses, the number of places in a group is:
- Learning Time with Timmy 1 - 10
- Learning Time with Timmy 2&3 - 12
- Primary Infants - 14
- Primary Plus, Lower and Upper Secondary - 16
For online courses the maximum number of places in a group is 12, regardless of the level.
What are the course materials?
The course materials for Primary Infants, Primary Plus, Lower Secondary, and Upper Secondary are provided by the British Council and are included in the course fee*. Children will receive the materials at the beginning of the second semester. If you have opted for an online course, you will be able to pick it up from our teaching centre in Calea Dorobanților no. 14.
*Children enrolled in Upper Secondary C2, Primary Infants and Primary Plus Foundation will have a textbook as a course support, which can be purchased separately from the Fischer bookstore. You will receive details about it at the beginning of the academic year.
Will the face to face courses remain so throughout the academic year?
We aim to offer face to face teaching throughout the whole academic year.
However, should new local or regional regulations require us to switch to online classes, here's our promise to you:
- if we need to close the teaching centre in line with government guidelines, we guarantee that your child’s classes will continue online
- online classes will include the same number of hours as face-to-face classes
- every effort will be made to ensure that online classes will be with the same teacher, same classmates and at the same time.
