Join us on Friday 24 June for the 10th edition of the Night of the Cultural Institutes!
This year we are marking 400 years since the death of the great British playwright, William Shakespeare. For this reason, our programme celebrates in a unique way the writer's work.
We will be waiting for you with „Shakespeare All Day Long” at the @British Library, from 12:00 to 18:00, and from 18:30 we propose the debate “Shakespeare, sexuality and gender identity in the Elizabethan era”.
From 18:00 and on,The London Street Atelier will be offering traditional treats, taking you back to Elizabethan times, while the fun is provided by a photo booth and a Shakespearian treasure hunt.
In the British Council Courtyard you will be charmed by Ana Maria Iordache’s guitar concert from 20:00 until 20:30. After the concert, starting at 21:00, the scene will belong to the actors Alexandra Rădescu and Dorin Eugen Ionescu, winners of the British Council Award at the UNITER Gala 2016, who will interpret fragments from Shakespeare’s plays.
Cinema lovers will be able to watch „Prospero’s Books” starting at 20:30 (the impressive cinematic adaptation of The Tempest, by William Shakespeare, written and directed by Peter Greenaway). Also for film enthusiasts, from 21:30, the screening of „Play on!” will take place, part of the Silent Shakespeare movie series, from the British Film Institute, created between 1899-1910.
The evening continues at 22:00 with a theatre play inspired by Shakespeare's sonnets, performed by actors from Masca Theatre and Hyperion University, under the direction of Mihai Mălaimare.
