Join us on Friday 19 June for the 9th edition of the Night of the Cultural Institutes!
Music and Scottish poetry, traditional British cuisine, Irish folk, introduction to Welsh culture, British movies, Indian culinary specialities, contemporary British Music – indie, grime, dubstep, folk, soul, electro and everything else in between! You’ll find all this at the British Council, which celebrates this year the beauty of the United Kingdom’s cultural diversity!
Our visitors will have the chance to cook small British culinary treats with help from The London Street Atelier. Food lovers will be able to enjoy a great variety of British cuisine.
Live from the UK, the famous British linguist David Crystal will present the various and most representative accents of the English language from each region in the UK.
During the Book Club we’ll be talking about the British writers who choose to publish their books under male pseudonyms. The novel we will be discussing is “The Cuckoo’s Calling” written by Robert Galbraith, J.K.Rowling’s pseudonym.
Our English teachers will surprize you with an exquisite selection of music from various periods and musical genres, from Irish folk and bassoon notes to the newest sounds.
Cinema lovers will be able to watch a documentary about Jeremy Deller, one of the UK’s most unconventional artists. He does not draw, nor does he sculpt, he doesn’t have any formal education, but his works, second to none, have had a great impact on the British Art.
The role of community in dealing with diversity in the UK is held under a huge question mark in the highly acclaimed movie “My Brother The Devil”, which will also be screened during the Night of Cultural Institutes.
