Zoe Rahman Trio

The Trio reunites some of the most vibrant names of today's jazz music:

Zoe Rahman (piano)

Described in the Guardian as “a formidable jazz pianist”, Zoe Rahman has firmly established herself as one of the brightest stars on the contemporary jazz scene. A vibrant and highly individual pianist/composer, her style is deeply rooted in jazz yet it reflects her classical background, British/Bengali heritage and her very broad musical taste.

Zoe won Best Jazz Act in the 2012 MOBO awards, following on from her sell-out tour of her fifth album ”Kindred Spirits”. Her 2006 album, ”Melting Pot”, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and her highly acclaimed ”Where Rivers Meet” (2008) found her and her brother Idris Rahman exploring the music of their Bengali heritage in a brilliant fusion of jazz and world music.

Alec Dankworth (bass)

British Jazz Awards winner Alec Dankworth has had the privilege of working with a variety of musicians that reflect his love of music from all walks of life- from Stephanne Grappelli to Abdullah Ibrahim and Van Morrison.

Alec currently runs various groups including Spanish Accents, The Million Dollar Band (performing the big band music of John Dankworth) and most recently World Spirit featuring Emily Dankworth on vocals.

Cheryl Alleyne (drums)

Cheryl became very interested in the drum kit at the age of 19 when she was first introduced to the instrument during a ‘Women's Day’ music work shop in North London and had found them ‘Unusually easy to play’! From there she studied ‘Light Music’ at the College of Arts & Technology in Newcastle upon Tyne, and drum kit with Roger Hempsall.

An extremely versatile drummer, she has also more recently held a drumming master class for the 2013 London Jazz Festival at the London South Bank Centre and continues to play and teach in London.

National and International musicians with whom Cheryl has worked include: Jayne Cortez, Marlena Shaw, Jean Carne, Joycelyn Brown, Percy Sledge, Billy Paul, Jimmy Witherspoon and Sean Oliver.
