What is Edmodo?

Edmodo is the educational platform our teachers use to inform students about what has happened in class or what they should prepare for next time. Sometimes, they even publish links to extra activities and worksheets for our students to further improve their knowledge beyond the content of the course books.

To maximize your progress while attending our English courses, we strongly recommend that you join our online student portal to supplement and enhance your learning.

The advantages of joining Edmodo

As a current student of our Teaching Centre, you will be able to use Edmodo for free. Here are some of its key features:

  • Staying up to date
As mentioned, teachers will regularly update their students on what has been covered in class and what the homework is.
  • Option to message the teacher
We know that sometimes our students can't make it to class, because of health issues or unexpected changes to their schedules. Students can send direct messages to the account of their class teachers to inform them they will be missing one or several lessons.
  • Keeping in touch with classmates
Students can easily communicate with their colleagues about what they've learned in class, but they can also share other ideas among themselves.
  • Parents can observe their children's activity
While for Early Years and Primary Infants groups we encourage the parents to join as students, for the age groups with children above 8 years of age, the parents will create accounts separate from theirs. These will allow them to watch what is being published by the teacher, but also to check up on what their child is writing. A parent can only see his child's activity and will not be able to see what other children are posting in the group.
  • Updates on British Council products and events
Depending on the time of the academic year, we might use our administrative account called British Council to publish information about upcoming events, competitions or freshly launched products (e.g. free MOOCs) which fit our students' age group and English level.

How does it work?

In the email you have received from our Customer Services Team, you can find a join link (for new students) and an Access code (for returning or recently transferred students).
To see how you are supposed to use them, please check the instructions available below, depending on the category you and/or your child identify with.

PARENTS of Early Years and Primary Infants Students

How to join

Early Years and Primary Infants students cannot join the Edmodo platform themselves, as most of them do not possess yet the necessary abilities to write a comprehensive message in English. Therefore, we encourage the parents to join as students. Please check the steps below:

  • Access on a desktop computer or a laptop the join link available in the message received from our Customer Sevices Team.
  • On the newly opened page, select to Create a new account.
  • When asked Who are you?, please choose I am a student, as you are creating the account to see the updates meant for your child.
  • In the newly opened form, please enter your first and last name. Should your last name not be the same as your child's, please mention your child's name whenever you send the teacher a direct message or you are publishing a post on the group page. Just at first, until they can make the connection.
  • The username and the password should be unique and easy to remember.
  • The email address is optional, but we advise you to type it in, should you ever forget your password. However, please note that an email address cannot be used for more than one Edmodo account

Once you submit the filled-in online form, you may need to wait for your join request to be approved by someone from our team.

  • You need to obtain the unique Parent Code for each Student account. (Please note that every child has a distinct code.)
  • Log into your Parent account.
  • Use the Add Student option at the top of the page, on the left. Or, in your Account Settings select Add Student on the Students tab.
  • Type in the Parent Code to observe your other child's account, as well.
  • Repeat for any other Students you need to add to your Parent account.

More on the Parent Account

The most important benefit is that you can observe most of the activity in your child's classroom, as well as what your child is doing in their Edmodo group.

Whenever the teacher posts a new Assignment, enters a new grade, updates the Planner or adds a comment to a student's Assignment submission, you will see the activity related to your child. All of this information is automatically shared with the Parent Accounts as soon as the teacher shares it with his/her students.

While you can observe various activity on your account, you will not be able to see the folders shared with the group.
You will also not be able to see Note posts unless the teacher specifically chooses to send them to parents.

As a Parent, you will always see:

  • Assignment and Alert posts sent to the Edmodo group
  • Direct messages between your child and their teacher

However, you will only see the following if included:

  • Note posts sent to parents
  • Polls sent to parents

Please note that while the teachers can send a group message to all parents with Edmodo account, they cannot message individual parents.

It is also important to remember that parents cannot participate in posts and they can only send direct messages to the teacher via the mobile app. However, the Edmodo developers are working on adding this feature to the desktop website, as well.

Getting ready for the next course

To ensure a smooth transition to the next course, please note that you will be able to use the same Student or Parent account year after year. Once an Edmodo account gets created, there is no need to create a new one.

Students will use their same account every year, even if they change classes, levels or teachers, or they change their emails.

Parents can add multiple children to their one account. And the account will be automatically updated to reflect any changes in the student's information.
